Sand, driftwood and shallow water

The beach set is three colours doing very specific jobs. The paper is a warm sand, the type is a deep sea blue, and the weekend columns are tinted the pale turquoise of water over light sand, which means the shape of the week is legible before you read a single number. The holiday marks are a sunset coral. The header illustrations run the coast through the year: shells and driftwood early on, full sun and parasols at the height of it, empty beaches and long shadows at the end.

Waves at the edge

The wave sheet stacks two rolling lines down each margin, drawn at different weights so the pair reads as water rather than as a repeated squiggle. A single wave line looks like a decorative flourish; two at different weights looks like a surface. It prints in the margin like every ornament here, so the grid keeps every millimetre.

A season on one sheet

The quarter sheet is the most used extra on this page and the reason is obvious once you see it: three months of real dates is exactly the length of a season. A summer let is booked, staffed, cleaned and closed inside one three month window, and seeing that window whole is a different job from seeing one month at a time. The landscape sheet turns the month sideways, which suits a noticeboard in a rental far better than a tall page does: the free space is nearly always wider than it is high, and wide day boxes hold a changeover note where a tall narrow one cannot.

Nothing stays where you pinned it

The wide binding sheet leaves a broad empty margin down the left edge before the grid begins. In a house full of salt air, open windows and other people's children, a pinned sheet has a short life, and a bound or clipped one has a long one. The margin gives a bulldog clip, a comb bind or a punch somewhere to go that is not a Tuesday.

The other week start sheet moves the week onto the other opening day, which matters more in a holiday house than almost anywhere: changeover days, cleaning slots and booking weeks are all counted from a fixed day, and it is not the same fixed day everywhere. Print whichever one matches how your bookings are written.

The weekly planner is the last sheet: seven undated day bands with writing lines and a notes band, in sand and shallow water blue. A week in a rental is measured in arrivals, departures and tides rather than in meetings, and an undated week sheet is the only calendar shape that copes with that. Questions about the beach set

Is this only useful in summer?

The illustrations follow the coast through the whole year rather than sitting in July, so the winter months are empty beaches and grey water rather than sunshine. That said, the sand paper tone is warm all year, and if you want a genuinely cool palette the watercolor collection is the blue grey one.

Which sheet suits a holiday rental noticeboard?

The landscape month for the wall itself, because the shape matches, and the quarter sheet next to it so a guest or a cleaner can see the whole season. If the board is outdoors or in a porch, print on the heaviest stock your printer takes and expect to replace it: salt air is unkind to paper regardless of what is printed on it.

Can I get this without the sand background?

Not in this collection, because the paper tone is most of what makes it a beach calendar. What you can do is print the landscape or wide margin sheet, both of which have the largest uninterrupted pale areas here, or move to the minimalist set if what you actually want is a white page with a clean grid on it.
