When is Carnival 2027?
Carnival 2027 peaks on Tuesday, February 9, the day known as Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday, and ends with Ash Wednesday on February 10. The big parade weekend runs from Saturday, February 6 through that Tuesday. In 2026 Mardi Gras fell on February 17.
Why the date moves every year
Carnival is tied to Easter: Shrove Tuesday always falls 47 days before Easter Sunday, because Ash Wednesday opens the forty fasting days of Lent, not counting Sundays. Easter itself moves between March 22 and April 25, so Mardi Gras can land anywhere from early February to early March. The dates in the table above are computed with the same engine that draws our calendars, so they stay correct year after year. In 2028 Mardi Gras is February 29, a leap day, and Ash Wednesday slips into March 1; in 2030 the whole week sits in March.
One party, many names
New Orleans calls it Mardi Gras, Venice and Rio call it Carnival, and the celebrations range from a single Fat Tuesday to weeks of parades. Marking up the February 2027 grid
The February sheet starts on Sunday and already prints Valentine's Day on the 14th and Presidents Day on the 15th. Carnival itself is not printed, so it is yours to add: a star on Saturday the 6th, a bold circle on Tuesday the 9th and a small cross on the 10th.
